Which circle of hell is moving?

This is the first of two posts today. I’m going to get the poopy post out of the way first. The one about the various circles of hell we endured to get here – our 10+ our drive from Boise to Eugene, with pets.

First I have to thank my family for helping us even get on the road. Thank you family! Thank you for packing us up and taking care of us and getting us on our way.

For the first few hours of the trip I spent my time pushing a few hundred pounds of dog back into the back seat. Libby spend her time riding on my right shoulder. Then we busted out the baby-gate and it got better. And then I could open the windows without them rushing the front seat and nearly crashing us. Meanwhile Ed was dealing with a cat that did not let up and climbed all over him and the cab. I’d have considered running the thing off a cliff.

We ran into road construction site after site. Driving 40 MPH is not a good way to get where you are going quickly, dammit!

Later I-84 was closed because a hay-truck was on fire. Luckily a truck at a gas station told us of such and gave us a route to avoid it. So we drove into Washington and around the complete parking lot that was traffic until right outside Portland.

Smooth sailing. Until I-5 when road construction forced three lanes into one lane of traffic and basically forced us into a complete stop.

I am in more pain than… let’s just say I am nauseous with pain. My feet and calves are so swollen as to be unrecognizable. Yup, it’s a move alright.

We made it into Eugene around 2:30 – 3:00 AM. We pass out on some futon mattresses and were so, so grateful. Life was good, at last. We spooned with our dogs (or at least Ed did, they totally shunned me, having been their captor of 10 hours). We awoke and have been going nonstop every since.

  1. Yup, that's the moving I remember. Nothing ever went as I'd planned (30 + hours to go 900 miles, day after day of moving to the same place until after 2 weeks it's finally over, crashing the pickup while trying to move in the snow . . . it's all nice to have over!)I understand your gratitude to just have it behind you!

  2. Nice...just in case I haven't said it before...I hate moving.

I hope that after a few days the pain isn't so bad! And I'm glad you're there!

  3. The crashing the pickup comment reminded me. the night we pulled in, we totally crashed into the neighbor's house with the Uhaul! Lukily we just tore up their gutters, easy and cheap to fix and replace, but that was great. The neighbors are wonderful people, so no worries there.
